An adoption update on semi-feral kitten Toby

April 2023 marks two years since Toby’s adoption at Easter.

An update on hissing, spitting, tiger Toby [who] grew up into the most handsome, loving, cuddle monster.

It has been a pleasure seeing the progress Toby 🐯 has made since his arrival at Catcuddles in 2021 and we’re so appreciative to receive regular updates on how he is doing.

We remember rejoicing at this update as his second birthday approached last October:

Almost every evening Toby climbs up on my lap, purrs his little head off, does some happy paws and then settles down for a snooze.  🐯🧑

His adopters tells us that these days:

he is the most cuddly cat I have ever had now. Definitely worth all the time and effort. We have been looking at my photo history each day to remember two years ago and watch the daily progress and little wins we had with him.

Toby had a great role model in resident cat, Luna whose beginnings were not dissimilar to Toby; born outside and very limited human contact, she blossomed with her family. After the sad loss of their beloved tuxedo Ossie to kidney disease, when they got in touch to tell us about the late Ossie, their remaining resident kitty Luna, and their desire to adopt Toby from Catcuddles (or Teddy as he was then) we felt hopeful that Toby had found his forever home.

Often at Catcuddles we rescue stray kittens who were born outside, and as a result are very shy and unsure of people. They have had little to no experience with humans since birth and as a result, don't understand what our intentions are or whether we want to hurt them. After getting such kittens' healthy our volunteers get to work socialising them, teaching them that people mean no harm and just want to offer them fuss and treats! Nevertheless some may remain shy and really need a loving, forever home to teach them to trust over time, so that they can grow into affectionate, outgoing adult cats. Unlike kittens who have been around people since birth who are great with children, to begin with at least, shy kittens usually need adult only homes or homes with older children only.

Whilst we love adopters willing to offer shy kittens and cats a chance, we do have cats of all temperaments available for adoption. Watch this space for details about our current litters who will be ready for adoption soon, and in the meantime don’t forget about our wonderful adult and senior foster cats, who are just as deserving of a loving home and best of all have fully developed personalities, so you already know their temperament.

Thank you to all the special people involved in Toby’s journey, and to Toby for being a great ambassador for Catcuddles. You can follow Toby (and Luna) on Twitter.
