Happy Adoption Day to Laith and Smokey

It’s a special celebration today for Laith and Smokey who are off to their forever home, to start a new chapter in their lives.

If you’ve been following their story you may recall that in March 2020 a stray cat found the benefactor who gave her shelter, food and love, and transformed the lives of her and her children.

This stray cat was dilute tortie, Mama Cat. Mama Cat, her daughters Smokey (tortie) and Coconut (calico) and sons Laith (ginger and white) and Blacky (black), and earlier this year they made the long journey from Saudi Arabia to London.

Mama Cat had been living as a stray around an apartment block, largely ignored until a neighbour attempted to poison her.

Fortunately for Mama Cat a newly arrived resident found this pregnant kitty and began earning her trust; to begin with building a shelter and offering her food. A few days after giving birth, Mama Cat brought one of her kittens into the apartment to find food, and the decision was made; the whole family moved in.

Mama Cat, Smokey, Blacky, Laith and Coconut were all neutered and vaccinated; however despite numerous attempts it was not possible to find any local adopters who would take the responsibility of any of these cats to live domestically. Sadly due to circumstances beyond her control it was not possible to keep this feline family, so instead their kind hearted benefactor set to prepare the family for overseas relocation.

Taking on a family of cats from abroad is not something we routinely do, but hearing the plight of these cats and seeing the determination of their benefactor in finding them a brighter future, an exception was made. The lady who had already done so much for this family generously arranged for their relocation, and upon arrival in London they transferred into our care as a stepping stone to finding their loving forever homes.

As they settled, we got to know a sweet, energetic, and often mischievous family.

Calm but chatty matriarch Mama Cat was the first to be adopted and is thriving. Better known these days as Momo, she’s developed a penchant for stealing pens but as she’s so adorable we’re sure she is easily forgiven.

Next to be adopted was Coconut. In the words of her adopter, Coconut “is an affectionate and delightful companion. She adapted seamlessly to my routine and is quick to complain if she has not received her breakfast by 5am. She generally spends the first part of the night in the bed in her stateroom but then wanders into my room and curls up at the end of my bed. She is without doubt the noisiest cat I have ever known, especially at mealtimes and on the rare occasions when she doesn’t get her own way, her complaints are blood-curdlingly loud!”

Confident, cuddle monster Blacky (now Bomber) was adopted a few weeks ago and we’re pleased to see just how relaxed he is.

We knew it couldn’t be long until affectionate Laith and his tortie sister Smokey found their home and were secretly hoping they’d be adopted together so when they were reserved, we were delighted.

We’ve really enjoyed getting to know this family. We wish each of them and their adoptive families all the very best for the future.
